Design and Build Quality

When you first check out the Buds Air 5 Pro, you’ll see it comes in a round charging case that fits nicely in your pocket. The noise cancellation is better than the Buds Air 3 because of the two microphones. There’s a touch area on the outside, and you can use it to play or pause music, activate Google Assistant, and manage calls. Both the earbuds and the case are good quality, especially for their price. The earbuds fit well, so they won’t fall out when you run or bike. For calls, they use something called beamforming noise reduction, deep neural network learning (DNN), and three mics for each earbud. This cuts down a lot on outside noise. When I used them outside, voices came through clearly, and the wind noise was almost gone, though I could still hear some traffic in the background.

The Buds Air 5 Pro uses Bluetooth 5.3 and has the LDAC Hi-Res audio codec, which is not common in this price range. Connecting is easy: press the function button on the case for 3 seconds to start connecting. It can also pair automatically with compatible phones using Google’s pairing mode, and I successfully tried this with the Realme C55 and Apple iPhone 14 Plus.

I tried it between a laptop and a smartphone, and it worked well, but you need to activate it through the app. The touch controls are easy to use, and you can customize them a lot. The charging case, with 460mAh like the Buds Air 3, says it can last up to 40 hours (without ANC) and 28 hours (with ANC using AAC), or 20 hours with LDAC. A green light means the battery is full, and it turns red when it’s running low. The Realme Link app makes it easy because it shows how much charge the case has when the earbuds are inside. It takes about 2 hours to charge the case and 1 hour for the earbuds fully. Sadly, there’s no wireless charging, but considering the price, it’s not a big deal.
